Relaxed Architecture of Southern Italy
Brighton Residence by Hecker Guthrie is a richly layered family home that balances heritage character with warmth, materiality and everyday living — a space shaped by memory, texture and connection to the outdoors.
Inspired by the relaxed architecture of southern Italy, the renovation honours the home’s 19th-century origins while introducing a contemporary addition designed for modern family life. Original elements — including the Hawthorn brick façade — are retained and celebrated, grounding the home in its Melbourne context. From there, the interiors unfold through tonal transitions, textured finishes and a careful dialogue between old and new.
Deeper hues and softer detailing define the heritage zones, while the newer spaces introduce rustic stone, warm oak joinery and relaxed surfaces that echo an Italian farmhouse sensibility. Skylines open toward the garden, encouraging a fluid relationship between interior and exterior — spaces designed equally for gathering, retreat and the rhythms of everyday life.
Within this layered environment, our Ecru Stripe bath towel sits quietly within the bathroom spaces. Its natural tone and woven texture complement the stone and oak palette, reinforcing the home’s tactile softness while supporting the rituals of daily family life.
Brighton Residence ultimately speaks to longevity — a home designed to evolve with its inhabitants, where heritage and contemporary living coexist with warmth, restraint and intention.
